Fact-checked as of October 20, 2026. This is a practical implementation guide published by Citera. Product capabilities are attributed to their documentation; the worked examples below are illustrative, not results from a controlled experiment. Citera sells software and services discussed in this guide.
The useful question is not whether your Framer website has enough AI-related acronyms. It is whether a buyer can find a trustworthy answer, whether the relevant systems can access that answer, and whether you can connect the work to a business outcome.
Our recommended workflow is to establish a baseline, fix access and factual gaps, improve a small set of important pages, distribute genuinely useful material, and measure again. Keep the website, external sources and measurement in the same operating plan.
Define the buyers and questions that matter
Start with the decision your business wants to help someone make. A B2B software buyer may need to understand integrations, implementation effort and security. A local customer may need service coverage, availability and booking information. An ecommerce buyer may need specifications, delivery details and evidence that a product suits their situation.
Create a working question set with four groups:
Problem discovery: what the buyer is trying to solve before they know your category.
Category evaluation: which approaches fit their requirements and constraints.
Product verification: what your product actually supports, costs and requires.
Purchase readiness: what happens after signup, checkout or a booked conversation.
For an illustrative Framer-based B2B website, use questions such as “Which tools help a small team publish useful content in Framer?” and “Can I approve an article before it goes live?” Add branded questions separately. Otherwise a tool may appear effective simply because the test already mentions the company.
Record the exact question, language, intended market, selected experience, collection date and answer sources. Keep the original set stable while adding new questions in a separate group. This is our recommended comparison method, not a claim that every tool implements identical market or language controls.
Citera documents tracked-prompt scans with brand mentions, answer position, sentiment, competitors and cited sources. Its help describes plan-dependent scans and daily analytics refresh, not a continuous record of every consumer search. 1: Citera visibility scans
Check access before rewriting the website
Google requires indexed, snippet-eligible pages for its generative search features. Check the effective Search Console inclusion control too; inclusion is the default unless an applicable setting overrides it. Neither setting guarantees selection. 2: Google AI eligibility, 14: Search generative AI control
Our suggested access check is deliberately concrete:
Open an important published page without signing in. Check its status and visible main content.
Inspect it in Search Console and record any indexing or canonical issue.
Review the live robots.txt file and any proxy, firewall or bot-management rules.
Check the relevant provider’s current crawler documentation before changing rules.
Publish the intended changes and recheck the public URL, not only the Framer canvas.
OpenAI distinguishes OAI-SearchBot, used for search, from GPTBot, used for potential model training, and ChatGPT-User, associated with user-initiated visits. Treat those purposes separately when making an access decision. 3: OpenAI crawler documentation
Perplexity similarly documents its search crawler and user-requested fetching separately. Review the documented user agents and IP guidance with whoever operates your site’s security layer; do not allow arbitrary requests merely because they claim a familiar bot name. 4: Perplexity crawler documentation
Do not replace useful public pages with an AI-only text experience. The goal of this guide is one accurate website that works for customers and is accessible to the systems you intend to support.
Structure Framer content around verifiable facts
Use a CMS structure that makes the important facts maintainable. For a service guide, our suggested fields are title, summary, body, author, publication date, genuine last-review date, image and alternative text, plus page-specific metadata. Framer supports CMS-based page titles and descriptions. 5: Framer metadata documentation
In Site Settings, establish suitable defaults. In the CMS detail-page settings, bind the page-specific metadata to the corresponding collection fields. Publish, then inspect more than one item so an empty field or wrong binding is not hidden by a single successful example. 5: Framer metadata documentation
For structured data, Framer documents JSON-LD in head Custom Code with CMS variables and safe JSON formatting. Use a type that describes the actual page, validate the output and never insert invented ratings, affiliations or results. 15: Framer structured data
Separate facts that change frequently from general explanation. A plan’s included models belong in a maintained product or pricing source; an article can explain how a buyer should evaluate model coverage and link to that source. Copying the same entitlement into dozens of articles creates more places for it to become wrong.
For each important page, add a short answer near the beginning, explain the conditions, and link to the evidence. This is an editorial recommendation for clarity, not a special AI-formatting requirement.
Consider this illustrative rewrite:
Vague: “Our platform handles everything for your growth.”
Specific: “Choose a connected CMS collection, review the draft and publish through the supported workflow. Confirm which fields and publishing permissions your project exposes.”
The second version gives a buyer something to verify. Apply the same discipline to integrations, turnaround times, customer results and approval policies. If a capability is beta or delivered by a team rather than software, say so where the capability is described.
Improve the pages closest to a buying decision
Prioritize a small set of pages: your core offer, pricing, integration details, a relevant customer story and one practical guide. Our recommendation is to repair the missing information on those pages before increasing article volume.
On a Framer integration page, explain the connection method, required access, destination collection, supported fields, review process, publication behavior and disconnect behavior. Include an honest limitation section. A logo alone does not answer whether a tool can edit the site or merely monitor its public domain.
Citera’s Framer setup guide describes a project connection, selection of an existing blog collection and configuration of the blog URL pattern. Its publishing workflow still requires the relevant site-publication step for changes to appear publicly. 6: Citera Framer setup
For an illustrative CMS article, review the title, summary, heading order, source links, image descriptions and intended CTA together. Then compare desktop, tablet and phone views. Test long source labels, narrow screens, navigation and the final conversion destination.
Link related pages where they help the decision: an integration explanation to a setup guide, a buying guide to pricing, and a case study to the actual relevant offer. Do not create near-identical pages just to swap GEO, AEO and AI SEO in the title. Google’s guidance warns against low-value scaled content made to manipulate search. 16: Google optimization guidance
Build authority beyond your own website
Our recommended off-site plan starts with something worth referencing: an original dataset, a practical template, a useful comparison methodology, a documented customer outcome or an expert explanation that adds information.
For each asset, define the audience, evidence owner, relevant publications, outreach message and success criteria. Distinguish three outcomes in your reporting: an external mention, a backlink to your website, and a citation observed in an AI answer. A placement can achieve one without achieving all three.
Citera describes managed editorial link building through asset research, relevant prospecting, personalized outreach, placement verification and reporting. Treat this as a scoped service, not an assumption that every software plan includes unlimited placements. 7: Citera editorial link building
For PR, specify the actual deliverable in the brief: research, press material, pitching or distribution. Do not promise a publisher’s editorial acceptance. For social, adapt an asset to the audience and channel rather than publishing the same promotional paragraph everywhere.
Google’s link-spam policy is an important boundary: buying or selling links for ranking manipulation and other manipulative link schemes can violate its policies. Evaluate relevance, editorial purpose and disclosure rather than choosing a service by a guaranteed link count. 8: Google spam policies
Use Citera with explicit permissions and review rules
Think of the implementation as a series of permissioned actions, not one universal “autopilot” switch. Decide who owns the factual review, which content types can publish automatically and which changes need approval.
Citera documents autonomous, approval-required, draft-only and disabled policies for supported publishing workflows. The controls for blog and social work can differ. 9: Citera approval controls
Its calendar documentation describes planning, drafting, quality checks and hero-image generation. The documented blog-publishing scope is text and images within the existing design, not an automatic redesign of fonts, navigation and layout. 10: Citera content calendar
The on-page audit documentation also describes manual exceptions for some page-builder text and custom fields. Website-fix application depends on plan and the connected CMS. Use those boundaries when assigning work, and verify the exact scope in your project before enabling changes. 11: Citera audit and fixes
Our suggested first production change is one approved article or one bounded fix. Compare the intended fields before and after, check the live page, and record who approved it. Keep a recovery plan appropriate to the publishing system instead of assuming every change can be reversed from the same dashboard.
Measure visibility and business outcomes separately
Use three reporting layers: sampled AI-answer observations, actual website activity, and business events. Record the data source and denominator for each. A brand mention in a test answer is not a website visit, and a website visit is not automatically a qualified lead.
Google now documents a Generative AI performance report in Search Console. Check its current scope and data definitions rather than treating a third-party prompt sample as Google’s own traffic reporting. 12: Search Console generative-AI report
Citera documents connections to Search Console, GA4 and Bing Webmaster, including search-performance and recognized AI-referral data. That setup documentation does not establish complete cross-device or revenue attribution. Define your conversion events and validate them in the analytics tools you actually use. 13: Citera analytics connections
For our illustrative Framer business, a useful review would ask: did the intended page publish, did relevant visitors reach it, did the signup or booking event work, and what changed in the fixed prompt set? Log the implementation date alongside campaigns, seasonality and other changes. Report association honestly; do not claim the content alone caused every later sale.
Frequently asked questions and next steps
Is GEO different from SEO and AEO?
Use the terms to describe overlapping goals, not mutually exclusive engines. Google discusses AEO and GEO within its SEO guidance. 16: Google optimization guidance
Do I need llms.txt or special AI schema?
Google Search ignores llms.txt and requires no special AI schema. Maintain optional files for a documented consumer, not as a promised Google ranking shortcut. 16: Google optimization guidance
Should I start by buying more tools?
Our recommendation is to identify the gap first. If the problem is implementation, adding another dashboard may not resolve it. If the problem is evidence quality, content volume may not resolve it either. Use the Framer SEO checklist to establish your foundation.
