Identify content that once earned AI citations and is now losing ground.

Find the pages that need attention

Ask your AI tool to compare Citera citation and visibility data over two periods, then highlight pages that may be losing ground. Use the findings to prioritize a content review while keeping a clear trail back to the underlying data.

1. Connect your brand data

Open Citera Settings → API & MCP → MCP and select Connect another assistant. Add https://mcp.citeralabs.ai/mcp in your AI client, complete browser sign-in and select only the brands you want it to read. API and MCP access are open to all Citera accounts. If your client needs a fixed credential, use the optional manual MCP-key route in the same dialog.

2. Compare like with like

Choose two comparable reporting periods and keep the tracked models, topics, and markets consistent where possible. Ask the assistant to list the URLs, dates, and sources supporting each observation. If page-level history is unavailable or the scans are incomplete, the assistant should report that limitation.

Example prompt

For my selected brand, compare cited URLs in the current period with the previous period. Identify pages that lost citations or visibility, show the supporting dates and sources, and flag pages with insufficient data. Prioritize which pages to review and explain why. Suggest improvements as recommendations only; do not edit pages, run website actions, or publish.

3. Turn findings into a review queue

Check the pages against the source data. Review whether information is outdated, whether the page answers the relevant question clearly, and whether a technical or content change is worth making. A decline is an observation to investigate; it does not by itself establish a cause.

Keep recommendations separate from changes

The example is read-only. Editing drafts, applying website actions, and publishing are separate operations with separate scopes, account entitlements, and confirmation requirements. Review a proposed change before granting write access or starting an operation.

Permissions and limits

Use the relevant visibility and source read scopes; add website:read only if you want the assistant to inspect the connected website resources available through Citera. No connection automatically guarantees complete citation history. Available comparisons depend on the data, retention, and scope of your account.
