Summary

Innovatum Science Park is part of Citera’s Swedish startup-support network, with an incubator relationship established under our former name Rankad.ai. Based in Trollhättan, Innovatum connects technology development with business development and a wider regional ecosystem. For our team, the relevance of that kind of support is the work of turning a technical capability into a product customers can understand, adopt and continue using, rather than treating innovation and commercial execution as separate problems.

What Innovatum Science Park does

Innovatum Science Park works with companies, academia and other organisations around innovation, with a particular emphasis on industrial technology. Its startup activities include an incubator supporting early-stage, scalable ideas through business-development work and access to a wider network. Innovatum has also published that its incubator retained its excellence-incubator classification for the 2025-2029 period. That is a description of the incubator’s own programme, not a certification that Citera’s product or customer results have been independently validated. Our relationship belongs in this startup-development context. We do not describe it as a cash investment or suggest that participating companies automatically receive the funding awarded to the incubator itself. The useful story is how a technology business approaches the commercial work required to turn an idea into something repeatable.

The question behind a convincing demonstration

When a new product can perform a task that previously took hours, it is tempting to assume that the business case is obvious. In practice, several questions still need answers. Who has the problem often enough to care? Who decides to buy? What must change in the customer’s existing workflow? What would make them stop using the product? At Citera, we want to connect organic growth work that is often spread across analysis, content, website maintenance and publishing. That ambition only becomes commercially meaningful when a customer can see which work the product takes responsibility for and why that work matters to their business.

A useful external conversation should therefore challenge more than the pitch. It should test whether the company understands the customer’s current process, whether the proposed solution removes a real constraint and whether the result can be delivered without constant intervention from the founders.

Making customer discovery operational

Our preferred approach to customer discovery is to collect evidence that changes a decision. A prospective customer saying that an idea sounds interesting is not the same as agreeing to connect their website, supply the relevant information and evaluate the product against a clear goal. For example, an illustrative pilot might focus on improving a small group of important service pages rather than promising to transform every organic channel at once. The team would establish what is currently missing, agree which changes are allowed and decide how to assess whether the work has been useful. That narrow scope creates a stronger learning opportunity. If the business cannot supply accurate information, onboarding may be the constraint. If the work is prepared but never published, approval or integration may be the constraint. If the work is completed but irrelevant to the customer’s priorities, the problem may be in how opportunities are selected. Those are different findings and should lead to different product decisions. A useful incubator environment can provide a setting in which a team is asked to make that reasoning explicit.

From founder effort to a repeatable product

Early customers often receive a level of attention that cannot be repeated indefinitely. A founder answers every question, repairs every data issue and coordinates every publishing step. That can be valuable while learning, but it can also disguise the amount of work the product still leaves unresolved. For Citera, the challenge is to turn what we learn from that hands-on work into a clearer system. Which questions should onboarding answer? Which decisions need a business owner? Which tasks can run reliably without someone supervising each step? Where should a human remain involved because the cost of a wrong action is too high? We think the product improves when those distinctions become visible. The goal is not to remove people from every decision. It is to stop requiring manual effort for work that can be made dependable, while preserving review where judgement or authority is genuinely needed.

Why commercial discipline matters for AI software

A feature can be technically impressive while being expensive to deliver, difficult to explain or disconnected from a customer’s reason for buying. We therefore want to evaluate development priorities against the whole service being delivered, not only the capability of an individual model. An illustrative content workflow may look successful because it generates a draft quickly. A more complete assessment asks whether the draft uses correct information, reaches the right destination and reduces the total work required from the customer. If it creates more review and repair than it removes, speed at the generation step is not enough. The same reasoning applies to pricing and packaging. A clear package should correspond to a useful scope of work and an understandable level of control. It should not depend on customers deciphering technical usage units before they can judge whether the product addresses their problem.

The value of a regional base with international ambition

We do not see a Swedish startup base and an international market as opposing choices. A local support network can provide continuity while a company tests its product with customers elsewhere. What matters is whether the team stays close to real customer requirements rather than building around assumptions about what a global company is supposed to look like. Trollhättan’s relevance to our story is therefore not a limitation on ambition. It is part of the environment in which the company has developed. The ambition is to build a product that can serve businesses in different markets while remaining disciplined about the work needed to earn their trust. That requires listening to differences rather than assuming every customer wants the same content, approval process or reporting. A repeatable product should have a clear foundation without forcing every business into an identical workflow.

What this means for Citera customers

Customers should not need to understand our incubator relationships to evaluate the product. The benefit we want to carry into the business is better judgement: clearer priorities, more useful onboarding and a stronger connection between what we build and what customers need to accomplish. Support organisations can challenge a team and provide useful connections, but they do not replace delivery. Our responsibility is to turn feedback into a platform that performs valuable work and communicates its limitations honestly.

Frequently asked questions

What kind of relationship does Citera have with Innovatum?

The relationship described here is startup and incubator support under the Rankad.ai name. It is separate from a customer contract, commercial certification or investment announcement.

Does Innovatum’s own funding mean Citera received the same grant?

No. Funding awarded to a support organisation should not be presented as funding awarded to every company in its network. Any company-specific grant requires its own evidence.

Why discuss an incubator in a product company blog?

Because company-development decisions affect the product customers eventually use. Customer discovery, packaging and repeatable delivery are part of building useful software, not separate from it.

Turning ambition into a business that delivers
